SBS, TPO, EPDM and PVC Flat Roofing for Calgary Commercial, Multi-Family and Residential Buildings
Flat Roofing Done Properly, From Deck to Drain
A flat roof only works when every layer is right: the deck, the insulation, the slope to drain, the membrane and the flashings. Iron Shield Roofing installs, replaces and repairs flat roofs on homes, condos, commercial buildings and industrial shops across Calgary.
We build for the conditions here, with systems that handle hail, heavy snow, wind and rapid chinook thaws without splitting or pulling apart.

Our Calgary Flat Roofing Services
Flat Roof Replacement
If your roof is leaking in several places, blistering or past its expected life, replacement is often the smarter spend. We strip the old system, fix damaged decking, correct drainage with tapered insulation where needed and install a new membrane.
New Flat Roof Installation
For new builds and additions, we install complete flat roof assemblies, from vapour barrier and insulation to membrane, flashings and drains, coordinated with your builder’s schedule.
Flat Roof Repairs
We track down leaks, repair hail and wind damage, reseal penetrations and replace failed flashings so a small problem does not become a big one.
Flat Roof Inspections and Maintenance
Spring and fall inspections, drain clearing and minor repairs keep your roof performing and help you plan future costs.
Let’s Talk About Your Flat Roof
Every flat roof project starts with a site visit. We look at the roof, listen to what you need and explain your options in plain language.

Commercial Flat Roofing Services
Commercial flat roofs protect inventory, equipment and the people inside. We work on warehouses, retail units, offices, restaurants and institutional buildings throughout Calgary, and we schedule around your operations so business keeps running.
From a single repair to a full tear-off and replacement, we put the scope in writing, keep the site safe and close up the roof at the end of each day.
Commercial Flat Roof Inspections
Flat roofs hide damage well. A trained inspector can spot split seams, punctures, ponding, failed flashings and wet insulation before they lead to interior leaks. Our photo reports rank each issue by urgency so you can budget with confidence.
We recommend inspections every spring and fall, and after any major hail storm.
Commercial Flat Roof Maintenance
Regular maintenance adds years to a flat roof. Our visits include clearing drains and scuppers, removing debris, resealing penetrations, checking rooftop unit curbs and documenting condition.
A simple maintenance plan costs far less than emergency repairs or early replacement.
Commercial Flat Roof Repairs
We respond to leaks, trace the source and repair the membrane, flashing or drain that failed. Calgary roofs see a lot of hail punctures, wind-lifted seams and freeze-thaw cracking at flashings. If a repair will not last, we tell you and show you why.
Commercial Flat Roof Replacement
When repair costs keep climbing, a new roof is the better investment. We remove the old system, correct insulation and drainage, and install a new TPO, SBS, EPDM or PVC roof. Work is phased to keep your building open.
Residential Flat Roofing Services
Many Calgary homes have flat or low slope sections over garages, additions, porches and modern designs. These areas need a membrane, not shingles.
We install, repair and replace residential flat roofs with the same systems we use on commercial buildings, sized and priced for a home.
Residential Flat Roof Inspections
An inspection tells you how much life is left in your flat roof and what needs attention. We check the membrane, seams, flashings and drainage and give you photos of what we find.
Residential Flat Roof Maintenance
Keeping drains clear and sealing small openings goes a long way. A quick maintenance visit each year helps your flat roof reach its full service life.
Residential Flat Roof Repairs
Leaks on flat sections often start at seams, edges or where the flat roof meets a wall. We find the source, repair it properly and make sure water drains the way it should.
Residential Flat Roof Replacement
If your flat roof is old, soft underfoot or leaking in more than one spot, it is time for a new one. We remove the old roof, repair the deck if needed and install a modern membrane that will last for decades with basic care.
Flat Roof Systems We Install
Each system below has strengths. We recommend the right one based on your building, how the roof is used and your budget.

SBS MODIFIED BITUMEN (STYRENE BUTADIENE STYRENE) ROOFS
SBS modified bitumen is a two-ply system with a base sheet and a granulated cap sheet. It stays flexible in deep cold, handles foot traffic well and has a long track record on Alberta commercial roofs.

EPDM (ETHYLENE PROPYLENE DIENE MONOMER) ROOFS
EPDM is a synthetic rubber membrane that stays flexible across a wide temperature range. It is installed in large sheets with few seams, which reduces leak points, and it is a cost-effective option for many low slope buildings.

PVC (POLYVINYL CHLORIDE) ROOFS
PVC membranes have heat-welded seams that are stronger than the sheet itself. PVC resists chemicals, grease and standing water, which makes it a good choice for restaurants and buildings with rooftop exhaust.

TPO (THERMOPLASTIC POLYOLEFIN) ROOFS
TPO is a single-ply membrane with heat-welded seams and a reflective white surface that helps lower cooling costs. It is one of the most widely installed commercial flat roof systems in Canada.

TAR AND GRAVEL (BUILT-UP) ROOFS
Tar and gravel, or built-up roofing, uses layers of asphalt and felt topped with gravel. Many older Calgary buildings still have one. We repair these roofs and convert them to modern membranes when they reach end of life.

Flat Roofing in Calgary: Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about flat roofs on Calgary homes and buildings.
How long does a flat roof last in Calgary?
A well-installed TPO, SBS or EPDM roof typically lasts 20 to 30 years. Hail, ponding water and missed maintenance shorten that, so regular inspections pay off.
What is the best flat roof membrane for Calgary?
There is no single best system. Two-ply SBS is tough and handles foot traffic, TPO reflects heat and has heat-welded seams, and EPDM is flexible and cost-effective. We recommend based on your building and budget.
Can a flat roof be repaired after hail?
Usually, yes. Hail can bruise or puncture membranes and dent metal flashings. We inspect, document the damage with photos and repair or replace the affected areas.
Why does my flat roof have standing water?
Ponding usually means the roof does not slope enough to the drains, or the drains are blocked. Tapered insulation during a replacement fixes the slope, and maintenance keeps drains clear.
Do you install flat roofs on houses?
Yes. We install membrane roofs on garages, additions, porches and modern homes with low slope roofs, using the same systems we put on commercial buildings.
